Try a new version of a page before you commit

Make a private draft of any page, change it freely, compare it with the live page, and swap it in when you are happy.

A page draft is a private copy of a page. You can change it as much as you like while the real page keeps working. Visitors never see drafts.

Steps

  1. Open a page in the editor. Above the preview you will see Current and a New version button (or Try a new version).
  2. Click it. A draft opens as a new tab next to Current, with a banner saying you are editing a draft.
  3. Ask the chat for changes or edit the draft directly. Switch to Current at any time to compare.
  4. Use Rename to give the draft a useful name. You can keep up to four drafts per page.
  5. When you are happy, click Use this version. The version it replaces is kept as a draft called "Previous version" unless you untick that option.

Good to know

  • A draft is a snapshot. Edits you make to the real page afterwards are not copied into it.
  • Your header, footer, theme and anything shared with other pages stay shared. Changing them from a draft changes them everywhere, and the draft bar warns you.
  • Drafts work on the home page too.
  • Swapping a draft in is one step in the page's history, so you can undo it.
