Affordable Website Builders for Small Business in 2026: What You Actually Pay

A practical comparison of Mondovo, Wix, Squarespace, Hostinger and Durable for a service-business website with hosting, a custom domain and contact or booking tools.

If you run a service business, “affordable” should mean more than the smallest number on a pricing card. You need a site that explains the service, collects a contact or booking request, includes hosting, and can use a custom domain. Compare those four jobs together, then compare the first payment with the renewal payment.

This guide covers Mondovo, Wix, Squarespace, Hostinger and Durable for that specific brief: a service-business website with a contact or booking route, managed hosting and a custom domain. Mondovo publishes this article and is included in the comparison. Prices and product pages were checked on 21 October 2026. Prices can vary by billing country, term, tax and promotion, so confirm the amount shown at checkout.

For a consultant, cleaner, photographer, therapist or local repair business, the minimum useful setup is usually:

  • a multi-page site with services, about, contact and a clear call to action;
  • managed hosting and SSL, so you are not maintaining a server;
  • a custom domain, either registered through the builder or connected from a registrar;
  • a contact form or booking flow, with the fees and limits that come with it made clear; and
  • an editor you can use after the first draft, whether that is visual editing, AI-assisted changes or code.

A low promotional rate that requires a 48-month prepayment is a different offer from a monthly subscription. A free first-year domain is also different from a domain you own forever: check the renewal rate and transfer rules. Payment processing, email, a booking marketplace, premium images and local taxes can all be separate costs.

Service-business comparison

BuilderWhat the verified offer coversDomain and billing detailGood fit when…
MondovoFree lets you build and publish one site on a shared Mondovo address, with 50 refinements per month and 50 Creative Studio credits once in the first month. US Pro is $20/month for the first live site; each additional live site is another $20/month.Custom-domain registration is separate. Billing country determines the currency, term, tax and plan limits; check the live pricing screen.You want complete designs, plain-language edits and the site’s forms and hosting in one workspace.
WixFree includes hosting and a drag-and-drop editor. The current plans page shows Light and Core tiers, with Core adding payments, basic ecommerce and scheduling; use the localized checkout quote for a US comparison.Wix says location, currency, billing term and tax change the final price. The fetched page displayed GST, so its visible amount is not a verified US price. Annual paid plans include a domain for one year.You want a large app marketplace and visual control, and can identify the paid tier needed for booking or payments.
SquarespaceThere is a 14-day trial rather than a free forever plan. The current official page shows Basic at $19/month billed annually or $25/month monthly, with hosting and built-in AI tools.Annual plans include one year of domain registration on eligible domains; the domain renews at the standard rate plus applicable taxes. Basic has a 2% online-store transaction fee on the current comparison.You value polished templates and a managed editor, and the trial is enough to review the site before paying.
HostingerThe current USD pricing page shows Premium at $2.49/month for a 48-month, $119.52 upfront term, with three websites, an AI Builder, hosting and ecommerce; it renews at $10.99/month.The headline is a long prepay, not a month-to-month cash price. A domain is free for one year on the offer shown; tax and renewal terms still need checking for your account.You can prepay for a long term and want hosting, an AI starting point and several small sites under one account.
DurableThe current monthly card shows Launch at $25/month, with secure hosting, a CRM, booking and AI tools. Its page says Launch includes a custom domain or a domain purchase credit.The free tier uses a Durable subdomain. Confirm the annual view, domain value, taxes and any regional offer before buying.You want a service-business starting point with booking and a simple CRM, and you do not need extensive HTML customization.

How to read the numbers

Mondovo’s Free plan covers the early work and one shared-address site: 50 refinements per month plus a one-time first-month grant of 50 Creative Studio credits. A custom domain needs US Pro at $20/month for the first live site, with additional live sites at $20/month each, and separate domain registration. If Pro is already active, its base subscription continues until cancellation; drafting and review do not pause it. Billing country changes the currency, term, tax and allowances, so use the regional pricing page.

Use each competitor’s full commitment as the comparison: Wix requires a localized quote for the paid tier that supports the needed features; Squarespace’s website plan is separate from Acuity Scheduling and Email Campaigns; Hostinger’s low equivalent is a 48-month prepay; and Durable’s $25 monthly Launch card bundles booking and CRM but still needs email-workflow confirmation. Those details matter more than a single headline rate.

A concrete US budget example

Consider one US service-business site with up to five pages, managed hosting, one custom domain, a booking calendar, an enquiry form and email follow-ups. This capability and budgeting example separates a verified starting cost from items needing a quote or second subscription.

ProviderKnown starting cost or termScenario coverageConfirm before budgeting
MondovoUS Pro first live site: $20/month × 12 = $240 for 12 months.Hosted site, forms and booking workflow can be planned in the builder; Free can be used for a shared-address draft and first live site.Custom-domain registration, regional tax, email-sending provider and payment-processing fees are separate if used. Additional live sites add $20/month each.
WixUS amount not verified from the fetched page; request the localized checkout quote for the tier that supports the required features.Core is the first listed tier with payments and scheduling on the current official plans page; contact and email follow-up setup may use additional services.US plan price, domain renewal, Email Marketing or automation needs, and processor fees.
SquarespaceBasic is shown at $19/month billed annually or $25/month monthly on the current website pricing page.Managed hosting and a custom-domain incentive on eligible annual plans; booking uses separate Acuity Scheduling, and email follow-ups use separate Email Campaigns.Scheduling subscription, Email Campaigns subscription, domain renewal, taxes and payment-processing fees.
HostingerPremium is $2.49/month only when paid as $119.52 upfront for 48 months; renewal shown is $10.99/month.Hosting, AI Builder, three websites and ecommerce are listed on the current USD pricing page.Booking and email follow-up integration, domain renewal, VAT/tax, and the cash commitment of the long prepay.
DurableLaunch is $25/month on the current monthly card.Secure hosting, custom-domain option, forms, CRM and booking are listed for the service-business plan.Email follow-up workflow, domain credit, taxes, annual pricing and any payment processor.

This gives Mondovo a 12-month base calculation of $240 before domain, tax, email provider and processor. It does not claim a universal first-year winner. Hostinger is a long prepayment, Squarespace adds scheduling and email subscriptions, and Wix and Durable need checkout or feature confirmation.

A practical budget check

  1. Write down whether the business needs a contact form, booking calendar, payments or all three. Do not compare a brochure site with a booking-enabled site as though they were equivalent.
  2. Record the exact term: monthly, annual or a multi-year prepay. Put renewal price and date in the same row.
  3. Ask who owns the domain and what happens if the subscription ends. A one-year domain incentive is not permanent registration.
  4. Add external costs: payment processing, business email, premium booking tools, paid stock assets, taxes and any domain privacy or renewal fee.
  5. Build the first version, test the form on a phone, and only then pay for the live setup that matches the approved brief.

For a single small service site, compare the complete brief rather than a headline rate. Hostinger has a low monthly equivalent but requires a long prepay. Mondovo has a free shared-address publication and a clear US live-site base price, but a custom domain needs separate registration. Squarespace starts after a trial and separately bills Acuity Scheduling and Email Campaigns. Wix and Durable need a checkout or feature check for the full workflow. Pick the cost model you can explain to the business owner.

When an AI builder is the right tool

Use a hosted AI builder when you want a maintained public site: the platform hosts it, handles the publishing path and gives you an editor after the first generation. If you ask an AI assistant to write raw HTML or React, that is source code until somebody hosts it, connects the domain and maintains any forms, dependencies or runtime pieces the project uses. Mondovo’s assistant connector can build, edit and publish the same hosted sites as the app; the connector is available on Mondovo plans, while the assistant’s own plan and workspace controls determine which actions are exposed.

See how the platform works, how to use Mondovo from an assistant, and the wider website-cost breakdown. For a broader list of AI builders, read the AI website-builder comparison.
