Fix domain and DNS problems

What to do when your domain will not verify, the bare domain does not load, or a record shows the wrong value.

Most domain problems come from a record that is missing, typed twice, or blocked by a proxy. The DNS Health Check on your Domain page shows what is expected and what we currently see.

Common fixes

  • Not found yet. DNS can take up to a few hours. Leave the page open and we keep checking.
  • Name entered twice. Some providers add your domain to the end of the name. Enter only the part shown in the Host/Name column, such as www.
  • A record already exists. If the host already has a record, replace it with ours. Two records for the same host conflict.
  • Proxy is on. On Cloudflare, set our records to "DNS only" (grey cloud). The page shows Proxy must be OFF when this is the problem.
  • Wrong value. Copy the value again exactly, with no extra quotes or spaces.

Make the bare domain work

Many providers cannot point the bare domain (yourbusiness.com without www) at a website address. You have two options, both shown on the Domain page:

  1. Set up forwarding at your provider so the bare domain sends visitors to www with a permanent (301) redirect. This takes about two minutes.
  2. Move your DNS to Cloudflare's free plan, which can point the bare domain directly.

Good to know

  • Adding these records does not affect your email, as long as you leave your existing mail records alone.
  • Back to the setup steps: Connect your own domain.
